Raspberry Pi 3: New Work computer is available

On the craft computer a new processor is used: The BCM2837 from Broadcom. He has four cores based on the ARM Cortex-53 architecture and supports their 64-bittigen instruction set. The cores can be clocked at up to 1.2 GHz. The wireless function is provided on the Broadcom BCM43143 chip. The chip is already in the official wireless USB dongle for the Raspberry Pi used. The chip on the Raspberry Pi 3 but does not seem to be connected via USB. In addition, the computer has Bluetooth 4.1. The new features require more power; officially the new computer now requires a 2.5 amp power supply.

The remaining data correspond to the Raspberry Pi 2: The computer has 1 GB of RAM and four USB 2.0 ports. Video signals are output via HDMI. The 10- / 100-Mbps Ethernet connection is still connected via USB. Power is supplied by Micro-USB port. The assignment of the GPIO connector with 40 pins also remains the same. As GPU two Video Core IV cores Broadcom are built into the processor.

New release of Raspbian

With the introduction of the new computer is also a new release of Raspbian, the Linux distribution for the Raspberry Pi, available. Although the previous distributions for the Raspberry Pi are basically executable, the wireless chip could at least need a new driver.

The Raspberry Pi 3 can already be ordered from many retailers, such as in Watterot and RS Components. The price in Germany is between 40 and 45 euros. The previously available models will be still available.

First details on the new Raspberry Pi have already been a few days ago announced after pictures and test reports had been published to the computer on the FCC website.
